Evenkeel
Background
Mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and trauma are experienced by many people at some point in their lives. Unfortunately these common mental health problems can have a really negative impact upon our lives and prevent us from progressing towards our life goals. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to learn what is keeping the problem going and how to adapt or overcome it. The therapy approaches offered are Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Both of these approaches have a strong research base and therefore represent the best in evidence based health care which increases the chances of them being of benefit to you.
How it works
It is difficult to predict exactly how long a course of therapy will take. During the initial appointment, we will identify the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that seem to be keeping you stuck and at times, make matters worse. We will also discuss what you hope to achieve from therapy and agree on goals relating to this that we both feel are realistic and achievable within a time scale that is either affordable to you or meets the criteria of your insurance company. An average course of therapy is twelve sessions, although this can be in excess of twenty or as few as six, depending upon your therapy goals. Each session will last for fifty minutes, with an expectation that you undertake additional work between sessions. Sessions can be face-to-face in a private therapy room; please go to the Contact Us page for the clinic locations. Alternatively, sessions can be via video conference.
Face-to-Face
The charge to individuals who self-refer is £100 per fifty-minute session. You can pay by PayPal invoice or bank transfer. Fees and who pays them may vary if you are accessing this service via an insurance company, solicitor or agent, and you should discuss the cost to you with them directly. The therapy room locations can be found on the Contact Us page.
Phone/ Video Conference
I can offer you therapy via video conference using Teams. The charge for remotely delivered psychotherapy is £100, payment is via a PayPal invoice or bank transfer.
Other things that you should know
Although both CBT and EMDR are effective therapies; it is important to remember that they don't suit everybody or every problem. If at the initial appointment or later in therapy, it becomes apparent that your difficulties are not suited to these two approaches, then this can be discussed with you. The progress of therapy will be reviewed regularly, and this is an opportunity for you to opt in to further sessions and to check that the therapy is helping.
Should you fail to attend an appointment, you will be charged for the full cost unless you provide 24 hours notice for online appointments and 48 hours for Face-to-Face appointments.
Should you not wish to pay privately for psychotherapy, we recommend that you visit your GP and discuss a referral to an NHS psychotherapy service.
